A visit to the plastic surgeon taboo? Not anymore. Millions of Americans are now seeking non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. In fact, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 6.6 million injections were performed in 2015 alone! Up 40% from just 5 years ago, these injectable and filler procedures continue to rise in popularity – and for good reason. And now there’s exciting news for Austin! Already available in Europe since 2013, the FDA has approved a NEW filler in the American market, and we’re adding it to our roster of cosmetic MVPs! Allergan, the company that gave us Juvederm Voluma XC® and Volbella XC®, has announced the release of its new product, Juvederm Vollure XC®. Hard to find, it’s debuting right here at Dr. Potter’s plastic surgery practice!
Why all the fuss?
Well, with little to no downtime, an easier recovery and an affordable alternative to more invasive cosmetic surgery, non-surgical cosmetic patients are visiting plastic surgeons in droves. With the arrival of injectables and fillers on the market, suddenly looking your best is no longer out of reach and with so many partaking, it has become less taboo than in the past. And with the addition of Vollure to the Juvederm line, Allergan has revolutionized the injectable industry.
So what exactly is Juvederm Vollure XC?
Juvederm Vollure XC is the newest hyaluronic acid dermal filler. According to Allergan itself, it’s used to correct “moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.” Great news for those of us wanting to minimize smile lines in the area around the mouth, right? With an impressive lot of Juvederm products on the market already, we’re happy to see yet another addition addressing a facial area presenting persistent problems for our patients. With what is known as “Vycross Technology,” Allergen has created a gel that can be firm enough to fill lines but soft enough to allow movement with natural facial expressions. And the best part? Results can last anywhere from 12-18 months, many times a full year longer than other injectables on the market, making it a better value. With minimal swelling, Juvederm Vollure XC adds subtle volume and improves moderate to severe facial folds that naturally occur as we age.
Is it really subtle or will I look unnatural?
With a skilled surgeon administering Juvederm Vollure XC, your results can look as natural as you want. If you’ve been on the fence about injectables and fillers because you fear that they will somehow make you look “plastic” or “overdone,” you are not alone. It’s definitely a well-perpetuated myth that, fortunately, is being dispelled as more Americans explore non-invasive procedures like these. If your surgeon understands facial anatomy, as well as your expectations, your problem areas can definitely be subtly improved. In other words, you will not become unrecognizable unless that’s the look you desire.
It will be interesting to see how 2017’s statistics shape up as the injectable trend continues. With the addition of groundbreaking products like Juvederm Vollure XC, and the 40% uptake in procedures over the last 5 years, we expect to see the numbers continue to rise.
