Art Bra Austin is fast approaching, and it’s with great fondness that I’m reminded of my very first ABA experience a few years ago. Having practiced just a short time in Austin, I was relatively new to the breast cancer community. What a warm welcome I received on this empowering, mind-blowing night. It was definitely a highlight of my first year in Austin and one to remember for sure.
Graced with an amazing all-star cast of survivors, thrivers and lifers, this runway was jam-packed with the most fearless, beautiful women in our area. With a permanent smile plastered on my face, I watched not only a parade of beautiful art bra artistry, but a never ending display of sheer strength. A true night of camaraderie, these women were nothing short of heroic.
The Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) has grown this event over the years and are instrumental in protecting the well-being of the Austin breast cancer community. Their motto, No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone drives their programming. They offer a one-on-one patient navigator service, support groups, and other financial assistance services including mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies for uninsured women; financial support to meet basic needs while in treatment and even physical support and help with daily chores. All FREE OF CHARGE.
I work with many of these women every day. I witness their bravery, tenacity, and yes, even their vulnerabilities, and it makes what I do a pure privilege. To some it may sound cliche, but it’s true that words cannot describe the impact they’ve had on me. Every day I’m inspired by the strength and optimism my patients display, and every day it’s an honor to be their surgeon.
I’m proud to be a sponsor for Art Bra Austin again this year because it brings me great joy to see my patients–and actually all of these women–radiant and confident on such a powerful night. You may have noticed the Art Bra links I’ve been posting recently on my Facebook page. This charity fundraiser is a treasured Austin event, and I urge you to check out their website at www.artbraaustin.org. I look forward to seeing you on June 4th at the Palmer Events Center as we celebrate these women and raise money for others in our community just like them.
Sincerely,
Elisabeth Potter
